In an on-line age, there’s a special value to turning the pages of a hardbound book. As part of a retrospective or anniversary program, it speaks of a company’s longevity and stability.
Challenge: Calpine is the largest producer of geothermal energy in the U.S., with 15 power plants at The Geysers in northern California, the world’s largest geothermal field. Commercial production began at The Geysers 50 years ago. In commemoration, Calpine asked us to create a hardbound book that would tell the history of the area while also communicating Calpine’s leadership position at The Geysers and in “green” energy production.
Solution: The story of The Geysers is not just about energy production: the area was formed a million years ago, it was revered by Paleo-Indians and, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was the site of a health resort visited by travelers from around the world. Our archival research enabled us to create a compelling narrative through words and historical images. Coupled with current photography and customized logos and other graphics, we developed a piece that presents the future of Calpine as much as it reflects the area’s rich past.
