Since its inception in 1991, ATP Oil & Gas Corporation has pursued a unique approach to reserve growth. By acquiring and bringing to production smaller oil fields that major operators consider non-strategic - so-called marginal fields - the company has expanded step-by-step into a significant industry force.
Challenge: ATP has a remarkable success rate converting to commercial production undeveloped oil and natural gas properties in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Through its annual report, the company wanted to illustrate how its own patience in building and capitalizing upon a strong inventory of properties was paying off - and how shareholders would benefit from their patience.
Solution: Continuity of plan and purpose is a premise of ATP's operation. We created two successive annual reports - for 2008 and 2009 - that represent continuity of message. The 2008 cover showed a single pearl, one of the ultimate expressions of how patience is rewarded. The 2009 story, which focused on the transformative effect ATP's new facility at its Gulf of Mexico Telemark Hub should have on production, was suggested by a string of pearls, a symbol of exponential growth.
