Management Bios
James O. "Jim" White, Jr., CPA, President and Founding Shareholder
Jim has more than 35 years of experience in taxation, accounting, business consulting and litigation support, and more than 25 years experience in investment and financial planning. He works primarily with individuals and businesses in preparing for the future, providing services related to taxation, financial, retirement and estate planning, and general business consultation. He is highly regarded for his creative problem-solving and big picture focus.
Jim is a graduate of the University of Houston with a BBA in Accounting and is certified by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) and the Houston Chapter of TSCPA. Jim is also a member of the taxation and financial planning divisions of the AICPA. Active in the community, Jim has served on several non-profit boards.
Brenda Garrison White, CPA, Vice President and Managing Shareholder
A graduate of Texas A&M University with a BBA in Accounting, Brenda has more than 22 years experience in public accounting, specializing in audit and other attest services, corporate taxation and business planning and consulting. Brenda started her career at Arthur Anderson & Co. in the Houston, Texas audit division. She has worked with privately held businesses in a variety of industries including manufacturing and distribution, mortgage and title companies, private lenders, hedge funds, personnel agencies, law firms, engineering firms, general contractors and oil and gas exploration companies.
Brenda is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) and the Houston Chapter of TSCPA. In addition, she is a past board member of the Texas Society of CPAs and a past board member and vice president of the Houston Chapter of TSCPA. Brenda has also chaired the audit committees of several non-profit organizations, including the Houston Chapter of TSCPA and St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She is a board member and treasurer of The Women's Home.
William E. "Ed" Hill, III, CPA, Shareholder in charge of Title Company Escrow Audits
Ed is a 1969 graduate of Tulane University with a BA in Psychology and a 1973 graduate of the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree. He worked primarily in the Land Title industry before entering public accounting in 1987. Ed merged his accounting practice with White Garrison & Hill, P.C. in December 1989 and is the shareholder in charge of the firm's title company audit clientele.
Ed holds memberships with in the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA), Houston Chapter of TSCPA and the Texas Land Title Association (TLTA).
David C. Burleson, CPA, Vice President and Shareholder
David oversees and provides financial expertise in a variety of financial reporting engagements for private companies in industries such as financial services, investment companies, manufacturing, distribution and construction. Prior to joining the firm, he was the chief financial officer and controller of Amherst Securities Group, a regional broker dealer specializing in fixed income securities for institutional clients, and controller for W.S. Bellows Construction Corp., one of Houston's largest general contractors serving large commercial projects. He was formerly an audit manager with UHY LLP (formerly Mann Frankfort Stein & Lipp, LLP).
David is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) and the Houston Chapter of TSCPA. He also holds licenses with the National Association of Securities Dealers, including a Series 7, 24, 27 and 63.
David received a B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas A&M University.
Margine Porter, CPA, Tax Manager
Margine is a tax manager and joined White Garrison & Hill, P.C. in January 2003. She oversees the tax department and provides tax research and tax planning for a variety of clientele including individuals, estates, trusts, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and international tax clients. Margine's career has primarily been focused in the public accounting arena as a tax preparer, tax researcher and a preparer of financial statements including audited statements on governmental clients. Prior to joining the firm, she practiced public accounting in Missouri, Iowa and College Station, Texas.
Margine is a Certified Public Accountant in the states of Texas and Missouri. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA) and the Houston Chapter of TSCPA. Her public accounting experience is in excess of 14 years.
Margine received a B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas A&M University where she was a member of the Corps of Cadets. She is fluent in Spanish.
Mignon L. Heizer, CPA, Tax Manager
Mignon joined White Garrison & Hill, P.C. in December 2008. She is a tax manager with the firm and is responsible for delivering high quality compliance services to clients including tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, limited liability companies and trusts. Mignon also works with businesses with their accounting and software needs and serves as a consultant to several privately owned businesses. Mignon identifies opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and provides tax planning and advice.
She has practiced public accounting for over 14 years. Mignon has also served as the executive director and business manager for several mid-size law firms and a large commercial real estate firm. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She is a certified public accountant in the State of Texas.
Mignon is a past board member of several professional and non-profit organizations including San Jacinto Girl Scouts. She currently serves on the steering committee of the Baylor College of Medicine Pink Ribbon House Project, is a member of the Baylor Breast Center Advisory Council and is a current board member, executive committee member and treasurer of Baylor College of Medicine, The Partnership.
